How to build your own deodorizer, and stay cool without spending a lot of money. Odor Eater 1 Project Overview Using off-the-shelf parts along with a 3D-printed frame and some soldering skill, we're going to create an inexpensive air filtration system that can also remove foul odors from an enclosed area. Parts List 1. Carbon Filter * iPower GLFILT4M Air Carbon Filter and Odor Control ~$40 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E582DV2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_… -- I like this unit b/c it's inexpensive, 4" (easier to print for), and reversible * Whichever unit you choose, make sure it has a 4" outlet and comes with a pre-filter 2. 120mm Fans x 2 * I went for a 5-pack of Artic F12 ~$20 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTUJRHK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_… * You want something with a CFM of 60 or better 3. M3 Bolts + Nuts 4. Aluminum Duct Tape (Optional) ~$20 https://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-Aluminum-Duct-Tape-120-Yard/dp/B00CJCG… 5. The 3D Printed Parts (Adapter + Duct) 6. 12v Power supply Tools List 1. 3D Printer 2. Soldering Kit 3. JST Power Connectors 4. Screwdriver 5. Pliers Instructions 1. Using M3 bolts and nuts, mount a 120mm fan to the side of the duct. Make sure that the airflow sucks air through the duct. Insert the bolts so their heads are on the INSIDE of the mount. (i.e the excess bolt length should point AWAY from the main assembly) 2. Using M3 bolts and nuts, sandwich another 120mm fan between the duct and the adapter. Make sure that the airflow pulls air through the adapter and pushes it up into the duct. Insert the bolts so the excess points down. 3. Fit the adapter over the mounting flange of the carbon filter 4. Seal the adapter to the filter with aluminum tape (other tape is acceptable) 5. Solder the power and ground wires of both fans to a female JST plug. Insulate as necessary.
